H.O.B.O. was organized in September, 1996 by a small group of homeowners on Lake Mitchell interested in improving the quality of life on and around the lake.  H.O.B.O. is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
   Mission of  H.O.B.O.
The mission of Lake Mitchell Home Owners and Boat Owners is to preserve, protect and impove the quality of life in and around Lake Mitchell, including the water quality, stock of fish, recreational facilities and general safety of boaters, skiers and fishermen on the lake and adjacent areas.  It is further the purpose of this organization to improve the markings and directions for people who use the waterway; to aid and develop the curtailing of litter and pollution; and to develop a crime watch program.  To fulfill our mission HOBO works with appropriate federal, state and local agencies, officials and programs to make the lake a safe place for recreation and sport.  Please join us in our endeavors to preserve, protect and improve Lake Mitchell.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HOBO

HOBO participates each year in the placing of 600-800 Christmas trees for fish habitat enhancement.
HOBO initiated and completed a project to purchase a Fire/Rescue boat to serve the lake.  The boat is supported by HOBO and is manned by the East Chilton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.  The boat (shown below) is fully equipped for fire and rescue operations and is the first of it's kind in Alabama.

-Lake divided into sixteen areas and   Area representatives designated.
-Compiled mailing list of over 600
lake homeowners.
-Initiated monthly water tests by
eight volunteer Alabama Water Watch certified monitors testing the main tributaries.
-Established a quarterly newsletter
for home owners, supporters and
other related organizations.
-Published a Lake Mitchell HOBO
telephone directory for lake
residents.
-In cooperation with APCO, Alabama  Department of Conservation and Chilton County Park Board, Installed a permanent live release tournament facility to increase survivability of fish returned to the lake.
-With Alabama Power Company placed buoys at strategic locations for boating safety.
-Established semi-annual lake cleanup days.
-Developed brochures to promote HOBO and Lake Mitchell.
-Developed Welcome Packages for
new residents on the lake.
-Developed boathouse signs for
emergency identification.
John Trobaugh Pavillion/Higgins Ferry Park
The annual general meeting is held the first Friday of November.  The Board of Directors meets quarterly the first Friday of January, April, July and October.  Meetings are held at Alabama Power Conference Center in Clanton, AL at 6:30 P.M.  The public is invited.  The annual picnic is held at Higgin's Ferry Park the second Saturday of June.
