And again in the Spring 2001
HOBOs are amazed what they find in our lake.
Some of the large group of over 60 HOBOS who participated in cleanup day.
Twice annually, the Lake Mitchell HOBOs, in cooperation with Alabama Power Company, contribute considerable time and effort to improve and enhance the Lake Mitchell environment.  On May 24,2001, a group of over 60 HOBOs worked a combined total of over 250 manhours to remove trash which had collected around the shores of the lake.  Realizing there is much more trash and litter that can and needs to be removed, the HOBOs nevertheless feel they are making a definite impact on the looks and environment around the lake.  Much more can be done through education and a public awareness that "you can make a difference".  With the thousands of people enjoying the lake, if each leaves only one bit of litter, imagine the detrimental effect it would have.  Lake Mitchell is a beautiful lake but it is not a sewer or a dumping ground for trash disposal.  Lets all work to keep it a safe and sanitary place to swim and enjoy watersports as well as environmentally safe for fish and other wildlife.
This.......soon.......
becomes this.......
And again and again in 2002.

Please don't litter our lake.
And More.......

Buckets, barrels, chairs, tables, a kitchen range, TV sets, oil cans and assorted trash were all found in the lake.  Are you part of the problem or helping with the solution?
The Spring 2004 Lake Cleanup was another success.
An estimated 7 tons of trash, bottles, tires and assorted rubbish was removed.  Alabama Power Company reports that 1.6 MILLION pounds have been picked up since we started on all rivers in Alabama.  It is estimated that 40,000 pounds of trash has been removed from Lake Mitchell by the Lake Mitchell HOBO Association in concert with Alabama Power Company.  HOBOs are especially proud of this contribution to the lake community.
